I like to imagine Houston artist Reymun exists in a shared artbook with artists Grady and J'von. And just like his musical friends, Reymun colors his mood in various audio shades to connect us to the music with the greatest of ease. Rey's latest, Could / Mine, offers that current emotional bridge.

Could / Mine is like a cooler version of what Paulie Bleeker from Juno could amplify, had he been privy to the guitar backing of Cristian Sanchez.

Could's opening bombinating keys, later taken over by a wormy bassline, jolt the ear and the melody pitted against the time clock chord progression, controlling the tempo that unearths self-assured feelings. Reymun's banal vocals shove everything unflattering about him across the finish line to flattering. The sound, particularly Reymun's lyrics, run incredibly docile and fantasizes a relaxed love in the same vein as the production. Could's sound is the gawky side of the same coin, opposite Mine. But once that coin is flipped and lands on Mine, the song pulls off a pink tuxedo that floods.

Cris's affectionate rhythm guitar riff sheds the entire attitude shift, once that person is yours. His chords instantly refresh the sound palate. The rhythm is infectious and Reymun's vocals match the production's fly. His falsetto gets passionate. But the soft tone he takes plainly sounds pleasing.

Mine sounds so good to me and I wish it was longer. But man, what an awesome way to close out a song.

Listen to Could / Mine below.
