New Year's Eve is artist Mellow Fellow's pity party. And he'll be miserable if he wants to.

The pretty, auditory fetishization of his own sadness, aptly titled New Year's Eve, plays out for the never-been-kissed feeling romantic on the last day of the year.

Written and vocally backed by Floorcry, NYE hustles contentedly toned vocals to the foreground. Mellow Fellow's deadpan voice sounds like his lonely reality at home, but Floorcry's lonely hearts inflection, holding a breathy sound, retains a shred of hopefulness that a kiss will come. Floor and Mellow's vocals broadly brush optimism and pessimism despite having similar, some mirroring, lyrics. The back and forth attitude falls right into the instrumentation.

New Year's Eve breaks out with blubbering guitar chords and an empty drum loop. The production is my favorite aspect of NYE. The blue reluctance to strum can be heard in the chords prior to the voltaic solo, with a devoid drum loop managing to fill the song with solitary feelings. Every space of the track vocally and instrumentally works to squeeze enjoyment from the artist's sadness. A position I, like I'm sure you all, can get use to if this is what the end result sounds like.
